Optimization of Entisols

Entisols known as marginal soil. The primary factor in which can became a limiting factor was soil solum. The solum was very shallow, and lithic contact could found in 30 cm depht from surface soil. The characteristic of Entisol was known as soil with 2 profile layer, A layer in which dominate with sandy texture, and B layer in which dominate with parent material. The B layer was become limiting factor for root plant expansion, and it become primary problem for agriculture establishment in area were Entisols dominate in large area. In recent day the use of organic mater was  already done in order to reduce the soil limiting factor for better use. His works War and Peace and Anna Karenina represent, in their scope, breadth and vivid depiction of 19th-century Russian life and attitudes, a peak of realist fiction. Tolstoy was born in Yasnaya Polyana, the family estate in the Tula region of Russia. The Tolstoys were a well-known family of old Russian nobility. He was the fourth of five children of Count Nikolai Ilyich Tolstoy, a veteran of the 1812 French invasion of Russia, and Countess Mariya Tolstaya (Volkonskaya). Tolstoy's parents died when he was young, so he and his siblings were brought up by relatives. In 1844, he began studying law and oriental languages at Kazan University. His teachers described him as "both unable and unwilling to learn."^[8]Tolstoy left university in the middle of his studies, returned to Yasnaya Polyana and then spent much of his time in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. In 1851, after running up heavy gambling debts, he went with his older brother to the Caucasus and joined the army. Is not too late sharing  our idea about how we support our kid with useful knowledge like Biology science.  Kids known as young generation that have great curiosity about their self, environment, animals, and everything about lifes. 
The biology as a basic science provide such information about plants, animals, environment, and lifes. The biology curriculum normaly provide in elementary school. But it was not wrong if we preparing them earlier for catch anything about plants, animals, environment, and lifes in specific term that suitable with their mind. 


1. What kind the learning model should giving for them
    The learning model absolutely different whit normal education. It should be like game, play with fun,    drawing, watch the movie, stories about biology and everything about life science but in Kid sense. The learning activities not only happen in class or in school, but parents also play the main role for their kids knowledge. The house should be a perfect place for kid learn, and become a  firts school for them before the day begin.


2. What the materi content
    The materi content suggest not very difficult to absorb by the kid. For example we can introduce them about animal   family, animal infant, fruits, with colorful picture or animation. Surely they could learn more fast if we provide the material   in colorful, funny, and simple.


3. What the benefit for them
    The benefit absolutely not in recent time, but it would appear in their manner, habit, in which they growing with affection     and concious to care and conserve the environment. As young generation they would very careful and wise to manage the   environment and natural resource in our world yesterday

Oil Palm Fruit

This picture was taken when I join with my student go on visit in Oil Palm Plantation in North Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi Province. That was palm oil fruit in 4-5 fraction (Oil Palm Fruit maturity Scales). Palm oil (Elaeiss guineensis) was belong to Palmaceae, product abundant oil from the small fruit called kernel, the kernel produce CPO (crude palm oil) and so on processed become oil as soap, margarine, cooking oil, and cosmetic through factory processing.

Soil profile: Ultisols from Wajo

Here is the Ultisols profile taken from Wajo (south Sulawesi). Actually that was a natural soil profile, but its showed complete A, B, C horizon of soil.
If the soil is dug up to a certain depth, from vertical cross-section can be seen that the color gradation forming layers (horizons) or so-called soil profile. In the forest land that has been cooked there three important horizon of horizons A, B and C Horizon A or Top Soil is the uppermost layer of soil The most frequent and most easily influenced by climatic factors and biological factors. In this layer most of the organic materials collected and experience decay. B horizon is also called the accumulation zone (illuvation zone). This horizon has a more organic matter a little but more an element of soil leaching than horizon A. Horizon C is a zone of  weathered rock which is part of the parent rock. Agricultural activities are generally located on the horizon A and B.

Typical Bird from Sulawesi

Maleo bird was typical bird that only can found in Sulawesi Island. This bird was only sutable live near the sheasore with warm sandy land or upland with steam water resource. This bird known as faithfull with its spouse.

Maleo bird established nest in open sandy area, near volcano area, and warm area as heat ground resources.The warm condition needed in egg hatch. After hatch period, Maleo chick digg way up from ground to surface area and escape into the grass, bush or forest. Different with another chick with soft feather in its wings, but in Maleo the chick wings most likely with mature bird, so it could make fly, that was caused by nutrition contain in Maleo egg fivefod than other bird egg. Maleo chick should feed itself and avoid the predators like snake, lizard, cat, pig, and eagle.

Maleo bird has scientific name as Macrocephalon maleo with length rate about 60 cm, and its only bird in genus Macrocephalon. Maleo egg weight is about 250 g to 280 g for each, with diameter rate in 12 cm, and five to ninefod than chicken egg. In the recent time Maleo become endangered species, deforestation, shifting cultivation, forest burn, as factors that encourage narrowing Maleo habitat, and also egg pursue by human. The recent population of Maleo population estimated about less than 10.000. The goverment and public effort should taking in order to maintain or increase its population.

The Wizard of Horticulture

Luther A. Burbank know as The Pioneer of Agriculture Science. He was Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, in 7 March 1849.  Burbank grew up on a farm and received only an elementary school education. The thirteenth of fifteen children, he enjoyed the plants in his mother's large garden. His father died when he was 21 years old, and Burbank used his inheritance to buy a 17-acre (69,000 m²) plot of land near Lunenburg center. Burbank had developed over 800 strains  and varieties of plant over 55 years his career. But he had been criticized buy the scientist on his day because he did not give attention about his research record, he just only interest in getting result rather than the research. He had many plant experiment in grafting, hybridization, and cross-breeding. In his personal life he known as the person always want to help another, he was very interested in education and give money for the local school. 

    Burbank also had an spiritual side, and he said in his speech :

"I love humanity, which has been a constant delight to me during all my seventy-seven years of life; and I love flowers, trees, animals, and all the works of Nature as they pass before us in time and space. What a joy life is when you have made a close working partnership with Nature, helping her to produce for the benefit of mankind new forms, colors, and perfumes in flowers which were never known before; fruits in form, size, and flavor never before seen on this globe; and grains of enormously increased productiveness, whose fat kernels are filled with more and better nourishment, a veritable storehouse of perfect food--new food for all the world's untold millions for all time to come." 

      Burbank had an named "The Wizard of Horticulture".  He died on April, 11 1926 in 77 years old, after been suffered by heart attack, and his last word is : I don't feel good.

Cacao fruits

The cacao fruits generaly not familiar with some people. Most of the people only known as chocolate after fruits processing in comercial production. The cacao (Theobroma cacao) usually found in tropical area. In Indonesia, especially in South Sulawesi, Cacao was very familiar with the local farmer. The farmer already cultivated, harvest, and processing, but only in fresh fruit and dried seed. The processing was only in another industrial term, and only few coorporated  in local area were able to handle and manage its processing.
The dried seed become an export comodity and gave high benefit contribution for cacao farmer in South Sulawesi. Many country in the world were not the Cacao produce, but they become the chocolate produce. We just become the cacao suplier but not the chocolate produce

Feed the people

Many area around the world already report about suffering and lack off food. The land no longer friendly to the human, marked by declining land capability in support plant growth. The climate also play its role to selected the plant species that still can enroll and survive under the heat pressure. The global warming could be as primary cause as one of limiting factor for plant growth. The decline of plant production and soil damage had been produced as global warming impact. In some area , local species already adapted for a long time period including the resilience with climate stress.  The local species as called composite varieties could be very potential to develop as food resource in global warming condition. The local corn varieties already cropped by local farmer and may be already adapted as many generation of varieties including its resilience with climate impact, and its still produce the seed as the food source for local communities.

Weed in Agriculture

 

Weeds are plants growing out of place and tends to interfere with the needs and human activities. Agriculture in the tropics tend to prolong the life cycle of plantpests, which one of them is a weed. Unlike other world  who know the four seasons, the winter may be several species of pest life cycles have been interrupted by winter, so that at the time of entering the spring and the beginning of crop planting, species that have experienced extreme conditions during winter , compete again with other species  to occupy space and dominate an area and agricultural land. Weed is actually known to man at the time humans started farming activities. In the days of yore where man has not engaged infarming, weeds may be a part of the ecosystem that exists and yetthe status of plant pests. When humans began to feel the decline ofagricultural output due to the presence of foreign species and undesirable, then the man began to draw a line between cultivated plants and weeds. Status and identification of weeds emerged atthe time humans began to grow crops. Some weed species statuschanges when humans discover the usefulness and benefits ofthese species, so that the species has been changed status fromweeds into cultivated crops.
