Fort Rotterdam in Makassar
The pictures show about Fort Rotterdam in Makassar. The firts picture was painted by Josias Cornelis Rappard (1883-1889), and the picture below was in recent situation. Fort Rotterdam formely was called Fort Pannyua, it was taken from turtle, because its looks like turtle when we saw from above. This fortress was built in 1549 by The ninth King of Gowa called I manrigau Daeng Bonto Karaeng Lakiung Tumapa'risi' kallonna. In 1667 Gowa Kingdom and VOC was sign an aggrement called Bongaya Aggrement between Sultan Hasanuddin from Gowa and Dutch. After that, fortress Pannyua had been taken over by VOC under leadership of Cornelis Spellman and name of The Fortress Pannyua was change become Fort Rotterdam . Now Fort Rotterdam became one of the proud of Makassar and it is a good place to visit for tourism activity.
